Is psychotherapy covered under my insurance plan or through OHIP?

Great question! Please note that private practice psychotherapy services are not covered under OHIP at this time. For benefits plans, it truly depends on your specific coverage. Registered Psychotherapists may or may not be covered under your benefits plan (benefit plans can vary). We find that many do which is great!

Our highest recommendation is to check with your specific provider if the service is covered under your insurance plan. As a helpful hint, you can even send the insurance provider a link to the Psychology Today profile of your intended therapist to double check!

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an effective therapeutic technique designed to aid in the healing process of emotional distress and trauma. This method works by altering the way distressing memories are stored in the brain, thereby reducing their lingering psychological impact. EMDR is akin to a transformative tool for your mental well-being, offering a path to recovery from the challenges life presents. It focuses on desensitizing and reprocessing difficult memories, not by erasing them, but by diminishing the negative emotions and thoughts associated with these experiences. This approach facilitates a journey towards emotional resilience and well-being, contributing to a healthier, more positive state of mind.

When can I meet with a psychotherapist?

If you require therapy for betrayal trauma, infidelity, or anything else you need guidance on, I’m here to help! You can contact me for more information or book an appointment online.

What payment methods do you take?

At Kind-Natured Psychotherapy we operate with contactless payments. This allows us to keep therapy affordable, lowers administrative fees and make the most of our therapy time together.

Please know we accept Visa, Visa Debit and Mastercard. We do require a valid credit card on file and appreciate the understanding. If there is a barrier to adding a card on file, please connect with Shannon directly and we will work together to ensure a smooth payment process for you.

For credit card, we have an automated processing system through our software that will process payment following the session and provide an invoice for insurance purposes (if applicable). Please note that I do not direct bill insurance companies.

Do you offer sliding scale?

We do not offer sliding scale at this time.

What are your hours?

We offer virtual online therapy sessions Monday – Friday from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Appointment availability can vary, and we will do our best to work with you to make a time work. Check out our online booking to see if a time is suitable for you!

What is your cancellation policy?

We all know life can be unpredictable, and sometimes plans change. When you need to cancel an appointment, it’s more than just a schedule change for us. It leaves a gap that could have been an opportunity to help someone else in their mental health journey.

We totally get that things come up, but we kindly request that you give us a heads up at least 48 hours in advance if you need to cancel. This way, we can offer that time to someone who might be waiting for a session.

We hope you understand that for cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment, we have to charge a fee of 50% of the session rate. This policy helps us manage these last-minute changes fairly.

If an appointment is missed without any notice, we’ll need to charge the full session fee. We do make exceptions for medical emergencies, of course, because your health and well-being are what matter most.

Thanks for your understanding and for helping us be there for everyone who needs our support
